ENTITLED TO NOTHING WILLING TO DO ANYTHING
One of my favorite leadership talks of all time is a keynote speech given by the late Tim Kight. Here is the speech. It is a 60 minute master class in the Fundamentals of Exceptional Leadership. In it, he has an incredibly profound line that I have adopted: He says “If it isn’t happening in you, it won’t occur through you.”
I am reminded that when I am truly living a life that is maximizing my own potential and leading and inspiring others it is because “IT” is truly happening inside of me. I am earning the right each day to lead, inspire and motivate with my actions and behaviors. I am on “The Path” as Jocko would say.
What does that look like for me? I am in bed early and awake well before the sun. I am red-lining in a workout and pushing myself to improve through lifting, jogging, sprinting or wrestling. I am connecting with the Creator through bible study and prayer journaling and searching for wisdom and guidance to be brave enough to live my life with more heart than head. I am logging valuable time with my wife, my kids, and or men that sharpen my iron because these relationships are the ones that make life worth living.
I truly find joy and significance in the crucible of improvement and RFP (RELENTLESS FORWARD PROGRESS). I want to live a life that is truly built different. I pray that God continues to connect me to men like you who are “Built Different” and inspire and motivate me to bring my personal best daily.
I will close with one of my favorite quotes of all-time:
“If we would endeavor, like men of courage, to stand in the battle, surely we would feel the favorable assistance of God from Heaven. For he who giveth us occasion to fight, to the end we may get the victory, is ready to succor those that fight manfully, and do trust in his grace.”
Thomas à Kempis
Cheers to the men I’ve sent this blog to who I love trust and respect and who have inspired me to be better on this side of heaven. It is God who has given us the occasion to fight this good fight and he will assist us if we continue to fight manfully and trust in his grace. I love doing life with you and I pray that we continue to be men who are built different and live on the path.
