I was reading a book over this Christmas break and it has ignited many thoughts inside of me. I am reading Think Like a Warrior: The 5 Inner Beliefs That Make You Unstoppable. It is not a book about war or warriors, although it is about living with a thrive mindset. It has awakened many of my old thoughts that I feel like it is easy to get away from. In the book, this struggling football coach encounters coaches of the past who come to him in premonitions and encourage him. John Wooden, Herb Brooks, and Buck O’Neil of the former negro leagues. All three of them have outstanding messages, but Herb Brooks and his character I saw played in the movie Miracle really stirred my soul. It was basically about hope and taking control of your situation by dreaming big and not settling for the mundane because of your fear of failure. He talked about how his team of college rejects beat the greatest team of pro hockey players ever assembled because they believed in a dream and had a purpose that was greater than themselves. And that their amazing feat spurred the whole nation to dig deep, dream deep, and get after it. I certainly believe that I have lost my motivation at times. It’s not that I’m not motivated or lazy, it’s just that I don’t have the next level motivation that I used to live in. And I think some of the reason that I am not as motivated of late, besides the kids wearing me down, is that I have stopped dreaming so big. I have stopped chasing big hairy audacious goals and settled for good rather than great. I am looking forward to challenging myself in so many ways and hopefully get me motivated this year. Physical fitness & functionality for my soon to be 38 year old body. Spiritually dwelling daily in the presence of the Holy Spirit so that he can lead me to be the man I was created to be. Financially getting to a place where we have a big goal and big dreams (this may motivate me to seek a second income generator for myself in an arena that I enjoy). Also, leading my wife to be happy and find her sweet spot inside of the chaos of 4 kids 5 and under.
